Over the past couple of months, Alan has shown an unfortunate interest in skunks. The consequences up until last night resulted in some uncontrolled barking. Irritating, but not a big deal. Until last night.
Anywho, I digress …

Recently I visited a Large Search Engine Company to take part in a User Experience study. I am sworn to secrecy, so I can’t reveal the name. I am sure you can guess 😉
I thought it would be interesting to see new features and to see how they administer the study. And, hey! They pay $75! What’s not to love?

Just a quick post to report that although there is a funny bit during the early credits, there is no funny bit at the end.
Poo.
Lisa.
UPDATE: Exactly the same is true for Despicable Me. I want a Minion for Christmas!

Following on from my previous post, I offer the following movie comment.
I liked K&D, which at first blush is not all that surprising, as I love action movies. However, it does have Tom Cruise in it and I am not a fan, but he is outstanding in this movie.

I have an odd thing about watching a film at the cinema. I like to wait all the way through the credits until the lights come up.
Why? Well, I sit there along with, the movie aficionados who sagely nod at the sight of a familiar name for the Associate Junior Non-Executive Special-Assistant-To-The-Wardrobe-Digital-Effects Sub-Management Team-Leader, the guy who fell asleep and the dubious looking fellow in the back row. I don’t want to know why he stays.

Back in 2003, I took a business trip to JPL with some work colleagues. We flew in a private plane and I felt like the Queen. It was a Pilatus PC-12 NG. Very fancy. No checked bag fuss and as many carry-on items as I could manage. I broke quite a few company travel rules – no private plane travel, no more than 2 VPs on the same plane (there were 4) and no fancy hotel rooms (I had a corner suite at the W). It was all booked by my boss – an EVP.
The company is no longer in business. Shocking.

I have been searching for a new dentist. My old dentist, well, I wasn’t happy. Nuff said.
I found my new dentist on Yelp. Why? I couldn’t find anyone who would recommend their dentist! I was hoping that the comments on Yelp were genuine – much of what I have seen about local restaurants is too extreme to be useful.
“The meat was off and I ended up in hospital” Vs “The waiter kissed my shoes and gave me free champagne”
The truth is somewhere in the middle.

Before I applied for US Citizenship, I heard many horror stories.
“It took 2 years, and then I had to restart from the beginning.”
“The papers were lost, and then I had to restart from the beginning.”
“The lines were so long that I had to wait 6 hours to have my fingerprints taken.”
My experience has been very different. I applied in early December, fingerprints in January, interview in February and ceremony in March. Very swift! What is even more surprising is that I got my passport a week after the ceremony. Surprising, as I had heard many horror stories.
“The papers were lost, the lines were so long, I missed my flight …”
You get the picture!

I have been quite forthright about my Britishness. However, it has become increasingly clear that I will probably never go back and live in the UK. Trips back to the UK have highlighted the rich vein of cynicism that runs through everything, and I can’t wait to leave, even before I touch down at LHR.

I have been watching the Olympics. I confess to an odd fascination with curling 🙂 Watching it can be a bit dull – I want to play! Understand that I am not good at any sport – at school, I was always the last to get picked. Really. Even the girl-of-size got picked before me. She was in goal. I didn’t share her blocking power. These days I could give her a run for her money.
