Anywho, I digress …

Loosely based on what might have happened. Or not.

Oddly fascinating

Why?

Recently, I have noticed an odd thing – people don’t remove the “keeper stitch” on jacket vents.  You know the one – like a big X at the bottom of a vent on the lower edge of the back of a jacket.  It is placed there by the manufacturer to keep the vent flap from curling while on display.  Similarly, the pockets on the front of jackets (and some trousers) are stitched closed to stop them drooping.  I leave those in – jackets and pants look better with closed pockets.  Enough of my own stuff droops without any help from my pockets.

Anywho, I digress …

While I am walking around in downtown Palo Alto, I often wonder if the people wearing the jackets with the ugly stitch leave it in because:

  1. They don’t realize it is there
  2. They know it’s there but think it is part of the design – yes, a big ugly stitch that looks like it was done by a 5 year old is a really nice embellishment
  3. They know it’s there but think it is there to hold the vent closed so as not to expose, or draw attention to, their droopy behind
  4. They know it’s there and want to make me stare at their thinly disguised droopy behind
  5. Something else that I can’t fathom

If you know the answer, do tell.

Lisa.
