Yesterday I went on a tour of SLAC – the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, or the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory as it is now named. Some people eat birthday cake and have a party. I tour SLAC. I dare to be different 😀
Anywho, I digress …

On February 17th, my heart broke. I lost two friends in a tragic accident. They were good people. They are missed, by me and many, many others.
There are no words that can express the sadness I feel.
Life is unpredictable and, sometimes, too short. Take time to enjoy what you have. Do it now.
Lisa.

I was sitting with some friends, chatting over coffee and knitting, when the conversation turned to cooking. I don’t like cooking. Lots of effort to cook something that takes 5 minutes to eat. It just doesn’t seem to be a good use of time. I detailed how I hate to touch raw meat and I shiver in the presence of sharp knives. Especially big ones.
There is nothing in my childhood, or adult years, to explain it. I never fell into a vat of raw meat. I never cut myself on a knife.
I really don’t like knives. If you want to scare me, pull out a knife. Only got a gun? Meh. I’ll wander off and make some tea.
Anywho, I digress …

Recently, I have noticed an odd thing – people don’t remove the “keeper stitch” on jacket vents. You know the one – like a big X at the bottom of a vent on the lower edge of the back of a jacket. It is placed there by the manufacturer to keep the vent flap from curling while on display. Similarly, the pockets on the front of jackets (and some trousers) are stitched closed to stop them drooping. I leave those in – jackets and pants look better with closed pockets. Enough of my own stuff droops without any help from my pockets.

I have mentioned before that I love Vibram FiveFingers. I also mentioned – on October 27th 2009 – that I was waiting for my second pair. They finally arrived – woot! But they were not the color (vivid blue) that I ordered – unwoot. But they were a nice slate blue, bright green combo – woot!
The Sprint is much more comfortable than the Classic. No rubbing on my heel. It really feels like bare feet and my toes are happy, happy, happy!

Today I decided to introduce Alan and Noodles. On the positive side, they didn’t kill each other 🙂 However, Alan was a grump-weasel and Noodles pretended not to notice him! I would have taken a picture, but I thought I should be ready to break up a fight just in case. I think I can call them acquaintances now, but not friends.
When I am out and about with Alan, I make many new friends! He is quite the magnet. Usually, when I walk into town, I only speak to the guy in Starbucks to order my coffee and morning bun and that’s it. With Alan, I get to chat with at least 6 new people. There doesn’t seem to be a common thread connecting them apart from the fact that they think Alan is cute. He is 🙂 Alan’s fan club is split evenly between men and women which surprised me. I have actually made some useful business connections along the way – the Chihuahua mafia 😉

I went to see Eddie Izzard last night at the Oracle Coliseum. His style is unique, using history as a framework for his rambling thoughts on odd stuff. He gets distracted from his framework quite often, and so I was waiting for him to say …

I came across a fabulous thing while shopping recently – a solar-powered Rainbow Maker with colorful gears. Fear not, I don’t think crystals have special powers 😉 I confess I was attracted by the colorful gears. Hey, one of them is orange!

Alan is settling in 🙂 A few more days and he can meet Noodles and BB. Yey!
I’ve never had a dog before, so this is a new learning experience for me. Alan has perked up a lot and so I have to keep an eye on him – it is not clear if he is house trained!
Anywho, I digress …
